Welcome to the Centre For Personal Development Counselling Service.

My name is Pat Shea-Halson. I am a qualified and experienced Counsellor, and Psychotherapist. I enjoy working with people, encouraging them to develop their own personal and professional goals. I work with groups and individuals enabling them to achieve their aspirations and inspiring them to develop their own personal vision for success.

Providing A Safe Supportive Space For You.
As a Psychotherapist I offer you a warm, friendly, professional, supportive space to enable you to reflect upon your life and look at yourself, and consider the issues this raises. Together we can look at the ways in which you manage your life, and the impact, this has on the quality of your life. This will help you to discover the ways in which you can develop the skills to become solution focussed. We will also look at where you are now, where you want to be, and look at the strategies you may need to put into place to help you develop the life you want. This will assist you to develop the resources you need, to acquire your personal or professional goals, and develop and enhance the skills needed to achieve what you want from life.

Working Together During Our Sessions
I want to develop a professional relationship with you based on integrity, genuineness and sincerity. I will work together with you to develop a trusting relationship, which will enhance our working alliance. I have a passion for counselling and for enabling people to achieve their potential, and this is demonstrated within my work.
My Theoretical Approach
I work as an Integrative Psychotherapist, integrating different theories and methods, which I will introduce to you. My main theoretical orientation is humanistic, and I have been greatly influenced by the work of Carl Rogers. I firmly believe that you have the answers to your “problems” I will help you to find these “answers” and help you to develop your own recipe for happiness and your own formula for success. I will help you to develop the skills required to enable you to feel confident, competent, and empowered.
I Provide A Confidential Service
I work with people who are experiencing all different types of feelings and emotions, including people experiencing depression, anxiety and relationship issues. Counselling can offer you a warm, safe, confidential environment, and provide you with the space to look at the things that are surfacing for you.
Helping You To Make Sense Of Things
I see my role as supporting and helping people to begin to make sense of the issues that are surfacing for them, and help them to “manage” them, and look at the ways in which they may need, or want, to make changes in their life. I will provide you with a safe and supportive environment where you can just be yourself. I will help you to make sense of the feelings that are surfacing for you, and help you to explore the difficulties you are experiencing. I will also help you to understand your behaviour, and work with you, to make the changes you may need to make, to improve the quality of your life.
I Will Help You To Find Your Way Through
Counselling can help you to focus on the things that are bothering you at the moment, and help you to decide how best to tackle them. You can also develop skills that will help you to be solution focussed, with problems that can be solved. Counselling can also help you to manage “difficult” feelings and emotions and help you to come to terms with feelings of loss and depression. I will help you to find your way through some of these painful feelings and emotions, and help you to develop new ways on managing them and working through them.
My Brief Work History
I qualified as a Counsellor 22 years ago and I was Head of the Counselling Department at Liverpool Community College. I managed the department and was also a Lecturer in Counselling & Psychotherapy.

I also taught at different Colleges and Universities. I then set up my own Counselling School the Centre For Personal Development 15 years ago, and taught accredited courses to enable people to become qualified Counsellors.

I work here at the Centre For Personal Development and also within the community. I also work with children and have designed a course the NEW LEAF ProgrammeÓ for children to help them improve their confidence and self-esteem and improve their schoolwork and educational achievements.

I enjoy my work and enjoy watching people grow and develop. I also learn a lot from the people I work with, and it is a pleasure to be part of their journey, as they discover how amazing they are, and how resourceful they have been up to this point in their life.

This insight gives people the opportunity to decide on how they will “live” the rest of their life, and discover they can develop a new life script, which enables them to plan and develop a positive, happy, healthy, enriching, successful life path.

I believe we all have the right and the ability to create a wonderful life. I also believe everyone has the right to sparkle and shine! However, sometimes things happen to us, which takes the sparkle, out of our life. Counselling can help you to put the sparkle back into your life, and help you to make the changes to enable you to lead a happy, healthy, enthusiastic, contented life.

The NEW LEAF PROGRAMME© has been specifically designed to help children to get the best they can from the Education System. It has been designed by Pat Shea-Halson

The NEW LEAF PROGRAMME© has also been designed to implement behaviour modification, enabling children to achieve academically, personally and professionally and to prevent anti-social behaviour. The programme will also improve the child/young adult’s confidence and enable them to feel more confident within their school work, enabling them to eventually secure employment, or further education.

THE “HAPPY” CHILD

Some children don’t have “Happy” Childhoods.

THE “HAPPY FAMILY

Some children don’t belong to a“Happy” Family

Some Children are given a head start and have a lot of confidence and high self-esteem. They are supported and encouraged within their family network. This enables them to achieve more personally and academically.

Some children are not supported and encouraged, and therefore develop low self-esteem and a lack of belief in themselves

The NEW LEAF PROGRAMME© works with the child and young adult to help them to improve their education.

Some Children find it difficult to concentrate and struggle with traditional teaching methods.

Some teachers find it difficult to cope with big class and the traditional teaching methods

BECOMING ANXIOUS FRIGHTENED CHILDREN

Some children struggle with the learning process. They become anxious and afraid.

Some Teachers are skilled at managing “difficult” children and enjoy the “challenge”
However some children are difficult to “reach”

They have a negative self-image and negative beliefs about school and are often “low achievers” non attenders. They may find “other” ways of earning money

Some children become so anxious that they are unable to attend school; they are unable to develop educationally and therefore are unable to find employment.

This creates problems for parents who feel powerless.

They feel desperate and are unable to help their children, because the children do not want to attend school for fear of failure.

Employers also feel powerless and are frustrated and are dissatisfied with the academic performance of their young employees.

What are the consequences to this dilemma? The reality is, if we do not encourage and support children and young adults to achieve at school, they begin to lose interest in school and education. There interest in learning begins to wither and eventually dies.

Every child has the right to a “good” education

If we fail to provide this, we don’t only fail the children.

We fail society.

Every young person has the right to reach their full potential

The NEW LEAF PROGRAMME© helps children to reach their full potential. It helps them to identify their own personal learning styles, and also enables them to take responsibility for their own learning.

The programme insists that the children/young adults take an active role during the course.

The NEW LEAF PROGRAMME© will address issues related to anti-social behaviour. This prevents the behaviour establishing itself within the school system, therefore preventing the issue of antisocial behaviour in later life. The NEW LEAF PROGRAMME© helps children develop life skills to enhance their job prospects.

The NEW LEAF PROGRAMME addresses the following:

Issues Related To School
Improved Behaviour
Improved Academic Performance
Improved Children’s Confidence
Improved Children’s Job Prospects
Enables Children To Be Better Citizens
Reduces Teacher Stress Levels
Less Drug Problems
Less Alcohol Problems
Less Crime

The NEW LEAF PROGRAMME© has been specifically designed to work with children; teachers and parents to deal with the issues raised that produce anti-social behaviour.

Working Together – Winning Together

The programme uses motivation learning and accelerated learning techniques.

The NEW LEAF PROGRAMME© will be working with schools, children, parents and teachers in schools all over the country.

I want to ensure that the children in Liverpool and on Merseyside get the opportunity to experience the benefits of the NEW LEAF PROGRAMME© which will help them to improve their social and interpersonal and communication skills.

HELPING CHILDREN CHANGE THEIR DESTINY

“If you want to change the world start with one child”

and were in Pupil Referral Units, enrolled on the programme.
they ALL returned to school.

I believe that life is a series of choices and opportunities. We need to be ready to grasp the opportunities and make the choices to improve the quality of our lives.

“Success must be planned and anticipated.
It is never going to jump out of the wardrobe
and take you be surprise”

I believe that I am here to live my life, learn how to manage the lows, develop a strategy to get over the “obstacles” and develop a positive life path to enable me to enjoy a happy, healthy, exciting life.

Our greatest glory consist not in never falling,
but in rising every time we fall.
Oliver Goldsmith

I think it is the choices we make, not the chances we take that determine our destiny, and if this is true, they we are the masters of our own destiny. We just need to learn how to make “good” choices and learn from our “mistakes” Most people don’t make choices because the are frightened of the “what if” principle “what if I get it wrong?” or “what if it’s the wrong decision?” and they often stay “stuck” instead of moving forward.

The greatest mistake you can make in life is
to continually be afraid you will make one.
Elbert Hubbard

It is only when we make a decision to move forward and try something new, that we get opportunities to discover something new about ourselves!

“Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do.
There can be no courage unless you’re scared.”

However, I do think it takes a lot of courage to make a decision, which will change our life, and often we can’t find the energy or the courage to take that leap of faith

It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.
Theodore Roosevelt

It is therefore important that we learn to design a life plan and develop it into a life path, to enable us to life the life we have dreamed, and achieve the things we desire.

Wherever we look upon this earth, the opportunities take shape within the problems.
Nelson A. Rockefeller

One of the secrets of life is learning how to manage the “problems” and develop a life strategy which is solution focussed. We can then “learn” how to live an exciting life. We can then develop the courage to make effective life changes.

Failure teaches success.
Japanese Saying

I think I have learnt more from my failures, and the things that went wrong in my life, then the things that went “right” I think this is because I had an opportunity to look at how disappointed I was feeling. I often felt frustrated with some of the elements of my life and this also gave me an opportunity to attempt new things.

What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?
Vincent van Gogh

Therefore it is important that we learn how to make the changes needed, to enable us to succeed in the game of life. We can do this by finding our own way through the “darkness” We can also look at the ways we can be supported and encouraged by others and improve our confidence and self-esteem

It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.
Chinese Proverb

It is also important to remember that no one else is going to make us happy, they don’t have the “power” to do that. We are the only ones who can make ourselves happy

Happiness comes of the capacity to feel deeply, to enjoy simply,
to think freely, to risk life, to be needed.
- Storm Jameson

Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of travelling.
- Margaret B. Runbeck

It is not length of life, but depth of life.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

May you live all the days of your life.
- Jonathan Swift

It is never too late to be who you might have been. – George Eliot, 1819-1880, English Novelist
Edward Vernon Rickenbacker

If you have no confidence in your self, you are twice defeated in the race of life. With confidence, you have won even before you have started
Marcus Tullius Cicero

There are no failuers – just expereinces and your reactions to them
Tom Krause

Your chances of success in any undertaking, can always be measured by your belief in yourself
Rober Collier

And remember, life is to be enjoyed not endured!

Welcome to the Certificate In Working With Children Course.

Who is the Course For?
This course has been designed for individuals who want to work with children and young people. This course The Certificate In Working With Children is Accredited and Endorsed by Association For Accrediting Endorsing Educational Courses. (AAEEC)

Aims Of The Course.

The Certificate In Working With Children has been specifically designed to give individuals an opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge to equip them to work effectively with children and young people.

Method Of Teaching
The course will be taught in an informal yet structured manner. It will be facilitated by Pat Shea-Halson and presented through a series of lectures, seminars, experiential group work, group discussion and private study.

Accredited and Endorsed by the AAEEC
Course Endorsement and Accreditation with the Association For Accrediting Endorsing Educational Courses (AAEEC) This accreditation process has been designed by Pat Shea-Halson and is implemented as an evaluation and moderation assessment process, which has been used since1995.

Why do the Certificate In Working With Children Course?
This is the only course in the country that presents a professional, accredited training course by an Award Wining Course Tutor and an Awarding Winning Training Organisation.

Pat Shea-Halson National Training Award Winner 2008
The UK National Training Awards are the most prestigious awards in the country. They represent the highest level of achievement across the whole of the UK. The Regional Training Awards are awarded to those entries that the regional judging panels believe have showed outstanding effects and benefits as a direct result of training. Pat Shea-Halson won the National Training Award for the North West Region 2008. A sense of pride and kudos goes without saying, and the external recognition acts as an endorsement and validation of Pat’s training programmes. It also demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to investment in its people, positions them as forward-thinking, and gives them a competitive edge.

The UK National Training Awards Recognises Achievements
Pat Shea-Halson also won The UK National Training Award for Exceptional Achievement 2008. The thrill of winning an award is obvious, but the National Training Awards have a far greater reach than individual success. The winners collectively demonstrate that the UK possesses a world-class highly trained and motivated workforce, and the knock-on effect is that this helps attract inward investment to the regions and nations of the UK.
Recognising Outstanding Business & Personal Success

“The National Training Awards Recognised as the most prestigious training awards in the UK. The National Training Awards are run by UK Skills on behalf of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills. The National Training Awards are designed to celebrate organisations and individuals that demonstrate outstanding business and personal success through investment in training.

THE UK NATIONAL TRAINING AWARDS
RECOGNIES ACHIEVEMENTS
Pat Shea-Halson also won The UK National Training Award for Exceptional Achievement! The thrill of winning an award is obvious, but the National Training Awards have a far greater reach than individual success. The winners collectively demonstrate that the UK possesses a world-class highly trained and motivated workforce, and the knock-on effect is that this helps attract inward investment to the regions and nations of the UK.
